Daily Reflection

St. John Vianney

An all-forgiving God

From today’s Scripture: “You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”—Mt 16:23

Try as we might, we cannot escape the fact that we are human beings, creatures of contradiction and sin. One day we are filled with the Spirit and taking care of those around us. The next day we are closed-minded and thinking only of ourselves. We reject the ways of God and follow our own.

God knows us so well he knows our many weaknesses. He loves us so much he promises to forgive. And he makes that forgiveness readily available in the sacrament of confession. No matter our human failure, God is willing to meet us as we are and give us the grace to start again.

Let us pray: A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me —Ps 51:10)
