From today’s Scripture: “For the LORD hears the poor, and his own who are in bonds he spurns not.”—Ps 69:33
When Christians think of St. Francis of Assisi, we think of his love for the poor, his rejection of materialism, his love for earth and animals, sea and sky. And those are profound and true things. He is the patron saint of ecology for a reason!
But take a step deeper and see the two questions that Francis prayed throughout his life: “Who am I? Who is God?” It was the answer to those questions that brought him to the poor, that brought him to love all creation, that led him to discard monetary gain.
These two questions of St. Francis are questions that each of us might pray, whose answers will guide us.
Let us pray: Lord, reveal yourself to me today. Help me to understand more deeply who you are, and who you are in my life. Help me to know my truest self.
