From today’s Scripture: “Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me, and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.”—Jn 12:44-45
Believing and seeing. It’s an interesting juxtaposition of words and seems to stand against all that we have learned about finding answers, finding the truth. We are trained to investigate, to be critical and to evaluate evidence. Only from here will we know the truth! Oddly enough, to do this we are making an initial step of belief before acting. We believe those who told us to act in this critical manner. With Christ, we are told to believe, which is really just another word for trust, and in so doing we might see God. Here we might see that the question isn’t about having faith or not having it, but about who are we going to trust, for only then do we begin to see.
Let us pray: Lord, help us to trust you, to have faith. That in it we might see you more clearly.
