From today’s Scripture: “For in truth it was the Lord who sent me to you, to speak all these things for you to hear.” — Jer 26:15

When we are baptized, we are called to be prophets of the Gospel in our own day-to-day lives. How are we proclaiming the Gospel each day? Do we believe that we were truly sent to share the Good News with others? How do we act out of that conviction as followers of Jesus? In today’s readings, the prophet Jeremiah is threatened with death. In today’s Gospel reading, John the Baptist, Jesus’ own cousin, is killed for speaking against Herod and his brother, Philip’s evil deeds. Would we have the same courage to stand in the face of death for encouraging others to repent of their evil deeds and become followers of Christ?

Let us pray: Lord, give me the courage to proclaim your truth in faith and charity, even when the cost is great.
