From today’s Scripture: “His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son.’” —Lk 15:21
Almost all of us have probably read the story of the prodigal son many times. But it is never too many times. We can reflect again on the simple words that the son said to his father, “I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son.”
The reason we can never read it too many times is because the love, mercy, and forgiveness that the father shows his son is the central message of the Gospel. An infinite number of times our God always forgives and welcomes us back from whatever sin or mistake we have made. Are we ready to turn to God and ask for forgiveness? When we do, we will feel the embrace of God’s love upon us like the father did today with his lost son who returned home.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
