From today’s Scripture: “And to another he said, ‘Follow me.’”  — Luke 9:59

What a small yet demanding command: follow me. Many times I want to follow Jesus, but I also want to do so when everything is in order, when I have more time, when I feel prepared, or when I can control the path. Yet Jesus calls in the midst of real life, with its responsibilities, weariness, doubts, and limitations. Following Him does not mean having all the answers. It means learning to walk with Him and allowing His presence to guide every decision. It also means recognizing that my mission does not come from my own strength. I can offer my gifts, but I need to remain open to being formed, corrected, and transformed.

Sometimes I would like to accompany others from the security of someone who already has everything figured out. But Jesus reminds me that I, too, am a disciple, that I am still learning, and that my own fragility can become a place of encounter with those who walk alongside me. What do I need to let go of to follow Jesus with greater freedom and accompany others from a more authentic life?

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, I want to follow you, even though I still have fears, attachments, and many things to learn. Give me the freedom to choose you each day and the humility to recognize that I also need to be accompanied by you. Make my life a path that helps others encounter you. Amen.
