Our Lady of Guadalupe

advent header

From today’s Scripture: “Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” —Lk 1:28

At the Mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe, Glenmary pastors will have the largest number of folks in attendance than any other time of the year, even more than Christmas and Easter. Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531 and the Catholic faith in Mexico increased. The devotion to her intercession and her message of affirmation to the poor and indigenous peoples is part of her attraction.

The pro-life movement has adopted her because it is the only apparition of Mary where she appears pregnant with Jesus as the black belt indicates. Seeing the church flooding with people, in procession with roses and flowers, and the children dressed in her image or Juan Diego brings joy and hope. Two elderly parishioners who only spoke English came every year at St. John Paul II in Rutledge because of the joy and faith of the people.  Mary is full of Grace and that Grace is shared with us.

Let us pray: May all people find hope in the love of Our Lady of Guadalupe. May indigenous people around the world have their rights and dignity protected. May pregnant women and unborn children find the support they need from heaven and from us on earth.
