From today’s Scripture: “…be strongly encouraged to hold fast to the hope that lies before us. This we have as an anchor of the soul, sure and firm…”—Heb 6:18-19

Jubilee Year 2025 is underway. Pope Francis proclaimed hope as its central message. Check out the logo on the Vatican’s website to see that the lower part of a cross has been turned into an anchor, a universal symbol of hope. 

A program that was offered in my parish called Anchorhold taught us that contemplative prayer enables us to continually turn toward God with an open spirit and a trusting heart, which is what Pope Francis states will restore hope to our world.  

Let us pray: Lord, may the Jubilee restore hope and open our hearts to receiving God’s grace, and thereby gain more strength to better “fan the flame of hope,” as Pope Francis asks.
