Ordinary Time Header-2

From today’s Scripture: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones…” — Matthew 18:10

Jesus does not ask me to care only for those I like, those who think like me, or those who can offer me something. He invites me not to despise any of His little ones and to recognize that every person has a sacred story, even when I cannot yet understand it.

Accompanying others requires looking beyond appearances. It means not reducing anyone to their mistakes, wounds, personality, past, or the situation they are experiencing. Every person deserves to be listened to with respect and treated with dignity.

I also need to examine the way I look at others. I may not openly reject someone and yet still ignore them, label them, judge them quickly, or decide that their story is not worthy of my time. Jesus turns my gaze toward the little ones, toward those who need someone to remind them that their life has value. Whom do I need to look upon today with greater mercy, patience, and respect?

Let us pray: Lord, give me your eyes to look upon each person. Free me from the prejudices that keep me from listening and from the labels that reduce the stories of others. Make me a presence that cares for, dignifies, and accompanies others, especially those who feel small or invisible. Amen.
