First Friday of Advent

The Lord is my light and my salvation.

Today’s Reading: Ps 27:1, 4, 13-14
…I believe that I shall see the bounty of the LORD
in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD….

Reflection: As the first week of Advent winds down, we settle into a sense of waiting. Yes, we’re scrambling to get giftsmany this year will have to be mailed due to travel restrictions. And maybe we’re just getting around to digging out the Advent wreath and finding the candles we ordered some weeks back (by the way, that’s a few days late!). But it’s time to take a deep breath and ponder what we’re about. Are we waiting for the Lord with courage? Do we believe that we will see the bounty of the Lord, even in the here and now? The psalmist sings that this is what the community of faith does.

Let us pray: Lord, give me courage. Give me firmness of resolve. Help me to look past the unknowns in my life just now and focus on you, your goodness, your faithfulness to us, your people. Put the psalmist’s song into my heart, and help me open my heart to hear it.
