From today’s Scripture: “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”—Ps 27:1
No doubt by now you have seen numerous light displays; each year seems to introduce something that produces “oohs and aahs.” John’s Biblical writings often cite the theme of light. In the midst of the darknesses of the world, the Psalmist’s words carry the day. Christ’s light illuminates far better than any other.
The celebration of Christmas after the winter solstice offsets the pagan worship of the sun as the days lengthen. It’s as if the Church asks “You want light? We’ll give you light—THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD!” And this Light is our salvation.
Let us pray: Lord, enlighten my mind to know you, and my heart to serve you.
