From today’s Scripture: “When Abram prostrated himself, God spoke to him: ‘My covenant with you is this: you are to become the father of a host of nations.’”—Gen 17:3-4
If we really understand what a covenant is, we would know how extravagant God’s love for us is. This absolutely binding reality is God’s promise to us. Come hardship, suffering, and hurts, he will never leave us. And he proved this promise not only to Abraham, but yet again, by offering his one and only son so we could always be in communion with him and seek his mercy in forgiveness.
But it is up to us. He never forces, he only invites gently. We are left to choose. Will we acknowledge this covenantal love? Or we will be drawn to give our hearts to lesser loves? Let this Lent be a reminder of what choice leads to abundant life, of the greatest promise truly remains.
Let us pray: Lord, show me your extravagant love for me today. Help me to stay steadfast in my choice to follow you.
