From today’s Scripture: “So Jesus no longer walked about in public among the Jews, but he left for the region near the desert, to a town called Ephraim, and there he remained with his disciples.”—Jn 11:54
Did you know that loneliness is now considered by the World Health Organization a worldwide epidemic? What a travesty. And when I read the line “So Jesus no longer walked about in public among the Jews,” the thing I imagined was the intense loneliness that Jesus must have felt in this moment.
We have, in our Savior, a person who knows all. Every hurt, every bruise, every joy, every happiness a human heart can know. So when the urge to escape loneliness takes us to some place other that will never satisfy, let us lean into our truth in Christ. As we journey with him to the cross these next holy days, may this be a tender reminder of a love that knows no bounds.
Let us pray: Jesus, you walked with us on this earth, facing rejection, loneliness, sorrow, and abandonment. As Holy Week nears, help me to stay close to you as you are close to me.
