Fifth Friday in Ordinary Time

OT Winter Email Header 2026-3

From today’s Scripture: “He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it.”—Mk 7:36

I have often wondered why Jesus sometimes told people not to spread the news of his miraculous healings. We know from Scripture that enormous crowds would find Jesus wherever he went. So maybe he was trying to avoid too much publicity. After all, Jesus’ main objective was to preach until the appointed time came for his death and resurrection. Or maybe Jesus didn’t want people to mistake him for a sorcerer or magician. These healings were meant to be signs from God. Ultimately people were so excited to share the good news, they just couldn’t keep it to themselves. We should be just as excited to share the good news as the people were 2,000 years ago.

Let us pray: May my excitement and zeal for the Lord be evident to those around me today.
