From today’s Scripture: “Then Jesus opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said to them, ‘Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.’”—Lk 24:45-47
One of the great mysteries of our faith is that of the Incarnation — Jesus, born of Mary, fully divine and fully human. He does not open our minds to understand this scripture so that we might solve this mystery as we would a puzzle or a scientific question. Rather, he opens our minds so that we may encounter him, the One who suffered, died and rose. We touch his wounded hands and feet; we are fed at the Eucharistic table; and in doing so our minds are opened.
Let us pray: My dear Jesus, shower upon me the grace that opens my mind to the scriptures that I might more boldly preach your name to all the nations.
