From today’s Scripture: “Behold the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.”   Mt 25:6

This is the midnight cry in the parable of the ten virgins. It is one of Jesus’ most direct images about being ready for his coming. The cry brings out the urgency of preparation, and the cry that comes at midnight, which is the darkest and most unexpected hour, in which spiritual complacency is stripped away. We cannot assume we have time later. The text also highlights our personal involvement and not relying on others. However, it is a joyful expectation as it invites a joyful communion with our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Life is truly short; this world is not our permanent home. Jesus is reminding us from this parable that you and I should always be ready for His coming, like the five virgins who were wise.

Let us pray: Jesus, help me to see what I need to do to be ready to joyfully greet you when you come again!
