From today’s Scripture: “The disciples approached Jesus and said, ‘Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?’ He said to them in reply, ‘Because knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.’” — Mt 13:10-13

It is difficult when someone is spoken to in a language other than their own. No matter how simple the message may be, they simply do not understand it, even if the speaker tries to use very basic words. It is frustrating to listen to someone without understanding them. In such situations, some people walk away without trying to discover what the other person wants to convey, while others view it as a challenge to overcome: they learn the language and, before long, are speaking and understanding it — a change that transforms their lives.

The same applies to the spiritual realm: if we do not understand the language of God’s love, we will struggle to grasp the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. However, if we strive with a sincere longing for God, we will gradually begin to see and understand divine truths.

Let us pray: Lord, help me understand your words. I want to see; I want to understand.
