From today’s Scripture: “Jesus said to him, ‘Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.’”—Jn 20:29
My first step to believing is in recognizing the presence of God. Could the desire to believe be already believing? This may require treating all people with respect and so must have a certain degree of humility. From the goodness of our being flows all our doings. The degree to which we see the presence of God in everyone and in all things gauges our real union with God. There is something about pain and vulnerability that magnifies the presence of God. No proof is required. No perfection is necessary. When we seek God, he said we will find him; when we love God, he says, “Here I am.” Perhaps we have missed many ‘Road to Emmaus’ moments! In total union, we see through the eyes of God and live the mind of God. We become contemplative.
Let us pray: Lord, help us live with humility.
