From today’s Scripture: “When you speak all these words to them, they will not listen to you either; when you call to them, they will not answer you.”—Jer 7:27
Imagine being the prophet Jeremiah and hearing these words from the Lord. How defeating! Jeremiah probably wonders what the point of his prophesying is, if God knows that the people Jeremiah visits will not listen. How defeated God must have felt, having established a covenant with his people, led them out of Egypt, and fed them when they were starving, only to have his people turn away from him. And yet, God doesn’t abandon us. He continues reaching out and demonstrating his faithfulness, despite our actions. Will we listen and answer?
Let us pray: Dear Lord, help me to listen patiently and attentively for your quiet voice. When you call me, give me the courage to answer you.
