From today’s Scripture: “I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”—Lk 5:32

While the Pharisees and Scribes complained to Jesus’ disciples, these followers of the Lord had their own concerns (re: Levi/Matthew). In the series The Chosen, the disciples’ suspicion of Matthew, this fellow Jew who could have been exploiting his people through his position, is very real. I found their coolness and hesitancy to accept him very plausible. Yet, like all of us, Matthew possessed gifts which Jesus invited him to use for the mission — just as Jesus invites ours.

Let us pray: Lord, help me to use the gifts you’ve given me to bring on your Kingdom.
