From today’s Scripture: “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?”—Mk 2:24
The Pharisees were like spoilsports, leading lives that were planned, arranged, and formal.
Can you guess why in small rural towns, you do not have to use your turn signals? Because every driver on the road knows where you are going. I have become a defensive driver yet there is a pharisee in me reacting to other drivers’ behaviors on the road. The law is not respected equally by every driver. A parallel is seen in the wearing of the seat belt. Legal observances for Jesus are not as important as how we treat each other with our human needs.
Let us pray: Lord, as I look at all the events of my day, I meditate on your word, and I ask you to guide me to what is essential in your eyes.
