From today’s Scripture: “How long will you make a drunken show of yourself? Sober up from your wine!”—1 Sam 1:14
Peter Maurin, co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement, went to give a talk. When he arrived, they sent him to the kitchen because they thought he was a poor man needing a meal. Antoni Gaudi, the great architect of the Sagrada Familia, did not receive prompt medical attention when hit by a streetcar because he was shabbily dressed. Many consider both men saints. Even Eli, the holy man, jumps to wrong judgment. We all do it; it is a very common sin. Where would we be if God made snap judgments?
Let us pray: Loving God, help us to always remember that we will be judged as we judge. May we pray for your mercy and not be surprised by your justice.
