First Monday in Ordinary Time

OT Winter Email Header 2026-3

From today’s Scripture: “Her rival, to upset her, turned it into a constant reproach to her that the LORD had left her barren.”—1 Sam 1:6

If you like soap operas, this story has all the ingredients but with a much deeper meaning. Maybe this story reminds us of the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:40). God spared my house in the tornado but not my neighbor—are they evil people? All our gifts from God are to help us love better, not judge better. God’s ways are mysterious beyond our simple understanding.

Let us pray: Loving Father, your mercy and justice is not limited by our frail humanity. Help us to live in the mystery of your wondrous and generous love and use it to build your kingdom, not ours. Amen.
