From today’s Scripture: “And a voice came from the heavens, saying, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’”—Mt 3:17
As in Isaiah 42:1, Jesus is the beloved Son just as we are beloved daughters and sons at our baptism. The Father is pleased with Jesus’ obedience. How will we be obedient to our Father today in simple acts of love? At the end of this life will we hear Jesus say, “This is my beloved son or daughter, with whom I am well pleased?”
Let us pray: Loving Father, as you sent Jesus to us in your love, help us to see all your beloved sons and daughters as you see them. People who are not like us—different races, classes, political parties, nationalities, religions, immigrants, and people we simply dislike—help us to know in our hearts that we can only love you as much as we love them. Amen.
