From today’s Scripture: “Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed…Proclaim the word.”—2 Tim 3:14; 4:2

There is a human tendency to want to assert what “I think” or what is “my perspective”. And, no doubt, there is something meaningful about this. We each have experiences, knowledge, and even wisdom to share.

But as disciples of Jesus, we should have a more fundamental, anterior impulse, regardless of how strongly we may feel about our knowledge or opinions. That impulse is to place priority on what the Church thinks, what God thinks—as can be discerned in Sacred Scripture. Only after we attune ourselves to the Church’s wisdom, should we then—ever so humbly—state what our perspective is.

In this way, we become ambassadors not solely of ourselves or of our thoughts, but of God’s wisdom, the Church’s wisdom—Wisdom itself.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, help me to remain faithful to what you have taught me and what you want me to believe, so that I can share your wisdom with others.
