From today’s Scripture: “My home is within you.”—Ps 87:7
“He’s got a way with words!” You could certainly say that about St. Jerome, whose feast we celebrate today. At the turn of the fifth century, he, priest and scholar, took it upon himself to translate the Bible into Latin. His translation was THE Bible of the Church for the next 1,000 years.
This Doctor of the Church had many other writings, all geared toward helping people develop a life of faith. In that, he certainly would recognize the spirit of the statement in today’s Psalm 87: “My home is within you.” It is always a person who sees this about himself, about herself, who can share that presence of God with others. Certainly that is what St. Jerome was up to. We should be, too.
Let us pray: Loving God, help me to be true to your Word today. Help me to use my words for the good, to help spread the good news of your love for each and every one of us.
