From today’s Scripture: “No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel…” —Lk 8:16
Archbishop Amel Shamon Nona of Mosul, Iraq, was named archbishop after the torture and murder of his predecessor. A man with whom the archbishop was praying was martyred only a day after his arrival in the city. Archbishop Nona nevertheless remained in Mosul, giving hope to persecuted Christians.
In a letter, the archbishop urged Western Christians to live their faith profoundly in daily practice. Faith is concealed by inaction. It is revealed by action. Faith must be put into practice to be meaningful. When faith is shown, others are encouraged to have faith, perhaps for the first time.
Let us pray: Grant, O Lord, that I may not be content to hide my faith for the sake of convenience but with courage to put faith into practice for your sake and that of others. Amen.
