From today’s Scripture: “Where are his wondrous deeds of which our fathers told us when they said, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ For now the LORD has abandoned us and has delivered us into the power of Midian.”—Jgs 6:13
How many times do we ourselves utter similar words? Sometimes it may seem like God has abandoned us or allows us to face tragedies despite how faithful we try to be. Why is it that God allows bad things to happen to good people? These questions and even doubts about God’s mercy may come to mind when tribulations come our way.
These words of Gideon ring true in the midst of our pain. However, our God is not an indifferent God or one that allows us to go into tragic situations, but our God enters into our pain with his strength. Like what God says to Gideon, he does not deliver us from tragedy but allows us to enter so that he can show us his victorious strength. We need to be reminded that it is not our strength or intelligence that leads us out of difficult situations, but is God himself!
Let us pray: Lord, may I grow to be ever dependent on you. May I be reminded that I can do nothing without your strength, that I must always lean on and be dependent on you!
