From today’s Scripture: “But Jesus answered him, ‘Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.’”—Mt 8:22
Pope Francis taught that listening (in the Spirit) is key to a life of discipleship. Listening in the Spirit is done in appreciation of the other and a commitment to the other, with undivided attention, allowing for no distraction to fully encounter the other.
Jesus in the Gospel today reminds us of this total attention to the task of mission. “Follow me and let the dead bury themselves.” What are the distractions of our daily lives that become stumbling blocks to the life of discipleship?
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, you came to gather the nations into the peace of God’s kingdom. Lord, have mercy.
