Sts. Peter & Paul

OT Summer Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.”—2 Tim 4:7

In St. Peter’s square, the statues of Sts. Peter and Paul overlooking the square and the world are beyond telling. Both men whose lives ended in this ancient city are a testament to the true meaning of a life of witness. The mother Church celebrates this heritage today.

The second reading is right on: St. Paul sees his life at the end as a race, competed well, and has faith that now awaits the crown. For us, like Sts. Peter and Paul, we may ask ourselves, in what ways are we still in the race, competing well? We may not suffer martyrdom, but surely for many, life itself may be a martyrdom of sorts, a suffering with hope in Jesus to the end.

Let us pray: Dear Lord, grant that in this race of life in faith, I may one day come to share in the abundance of your glory.
