From today’s Scripture: “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully…for God loves a cheerful giver.”—2 Cor 9:6, 7
I witnessed a priest take a piece of artwork off his wall and give it to a young man who was visiting and said how much he admired that piece of art. There was no hesitation. I knew this piece of art was a valued treasure to the priest, for he told me the story of it coming in his procession more than once. Yet, he just gave it away.
The magic formula is the more we give love away and the more generous we are, the more we receive in return. It is like the flour of the widow who fed Elijah during the drought. The jar never goes dry.
Let us pray: O generous God of love and mercy, may I freely give to others my time, my things, and my love to all who ask and are in need without hesitation and with a smile on my face.
