From today’s Scripture: “Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” —Jn 20:19
When I was a child, whenever I had done something wrong I would run into my room, close the door, and hide under my bed. I did not want to face the consequences of my actions. When I would re-emerge, I was welcomed back into the loving embrace of my family.
The disciples are hiding in fear behind locked doors. They fear they will face the same death as Jesus, whom they denied and abandoned.
Jesus comes to them, offering the gift of peace, not condemnation. He offers us this same gift of peace.
Where in my life do I need his peace? What am I afraid of? What am I hiding?
Let us pray: Jesus, I invite you into the locked doors of my heart. Show me the things that remain hidden so that I can receive your gift of peace.
