4th Thursday of Easter

Easter Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “Whoever receives the one I send receives me.” —Jn 13:20

No matter how old I am, I still get excited to receive a package in the mail. Whether from family or friends, there is a lot of joy around receiving a gift from someone else–especially when it comes as a surprise.

Sometimes, I suspect, Catholics do not give a lot of thought and devotion to the Holy Spirit. We understand God. We even love Jesus. But the Spirit, I think, is a little hard for us to handle.

What the Gospel tells us today is that the Spirit is the greatest gift, as it is the gift given to us from Jesus himself. Whenever we open our hearts to the Spirit, we are given great joy, not only in receiving a gift, but in the VERY GIFT itself.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Please send that same Spirit into my heart that I may be filled with all of the gifts of the Spirit, especially the gift of joy. Amen.
