Second Tuesday of Lent

Lent Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; though they be crimson red, they may become white as wool.”—Is 1:18

From the veritable cornucopia of themes today’s readings offer, I choose…COLOR!

Or perhaps I should say “contrast.” This passage has always intrigued me as I visualize the strong graphic image of one vivid color to…no color. Is that the way it is with God’s mercy?

I recall the fanciful story of a man who comes before God to unburden the weight of a certain sin. He begins, “God you know that terrible sin I did?” And God thinks and thinks and finally replies, “Hmm…I can’t remember.” God’s mercy “colors” everything.

Let us pray: God, thank you for the images that help me to “get it”  when my natural brain is overwhelmed by a supernatural love.
