From today’s Scripture: “This is how you are to pray.”—Mt 6:9
The disciples were looking for the right way to talk with God. So, as in all matters, Jesus showed them, and us, the way, providing everything we need to pray to Our Father.
Words of praise: “hallowed be thy name”; the recognition that God is in charge: “thy will be done,” and will take care of us: “give us this day our daily bread.” Words of repentance and mercy: “forgive us our sins” as “we forgive those who sin against us.” And finally, a request for his protection against temptation and evil: “lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.” The perfect prayer to our loving God.
Let us pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen
