First Wednesday of Lent

Daily Reflection

First Wednesday of Lent

Who is this? How do we respond?

From today’s Scripture: She came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here. (Luke 11:29)

It must truly have been an education for the disciples and others who listened to Jesus! He spoke the truth. He spoke with authority. In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims: “There is someone greater than Solomon here.” This remark must have made those hearing these words to wonder who is this? How do we respond? He calls us always to change.

Conversion for most of us is a slow process. Jesus’ words continue to be heard in new ways because each of us is different. Through our life experiences we are constantly changing. In that change, we are called to the openness of conversion in our lives. I believe this openness gives us life. Life has many possibilities. We grow with hope: God is not done with us yet!

Let us pray: Loving God, help me be an instrument of your grace. I wish to see the world as you see it, to live as you wish me to live. I can not do this by myself. I need your grace. Amen.
