Presentation of the Lord

Winter OT Email Header 2024-3

From today’s Scripture: The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.”—Lk 2:40

We sometimes forget that Jesus really was a person. Not just the appearance of a person. Truly God, and incarnate, truly man, our tradition tells us. We profess that at Mass every time we proclaim the creed. It kind of moves us from “pie-in-the-sky” to a more “down-to-earth” understanding, doesn’t it? Yes, of course we worship God who is present throughout the universe. But we worship one who, all the same, was really one of us.

Today we are “the hands of Christ,” and the “feet of Christ,” as St. Catherine of Siena said. It’s another way of saying that the Body of Christ is one which is down-to-earth.

Let us pray: Dear Lord, let me be your hands today that reach out to those in need. Let me be your feet that go the extra mile in compassion for others. Let me see you in the world around me.
