From today’s Scripture: “If a kingdom is divided against itself, the kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.”—Mk 3:24-25
Jesus shares this reflection after being accused of being possessed by the devil and casting out demons in his name. In turn, he asks his accusers various logical questions illustrating why this cannot be so. Mainly, why would Satan drive out his own demons? Satan would weaken himself and thwart his own evil goals.
In the same way, we as Christians must be united in our endeavors to combat evil and sin. The great adversary wins by sowing strife, division, and distrust among faith communities, friends, families, coworkers, and so on. But if we do our best to heal divisions and remain united, we can indeed drive out Satan.
Let us pray: Holy Spirit, spark within me a desire to remain united with those I spend my life with, whether at home, work, at church, or other places, especially when things get difficult.
