From today’s Scripture: “Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.’”—Lk 1:30
It seems clear from the readings that Mary would have had some pause to take on such a weighty mantle as being the mother of God.
Today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. So many of our brothers and sisters in our mission field come from Hispanic roots, so what a great day to honor their heritage and culture. Let us take a moment to honor her appearance and remember the words she spoke to Juan Diego in his trepidation:
“Am I not here, I, who am your mother? Are you not under my shadow? Am I not your health? Are you not by chance held in my mantle?”
Let us pray: Today we pray especially for our Hispanic brothers and sisters. May we always be united under the mantle of Our Lady.
