From today’s Scripture: “It is this disciple who testifies to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.”—Jn 21:24-25
These final verses of John’s Gospel present a powerful contrast in callings. Right after Jesus tells Peter, “You follow me,” the focus immediately shifts to the “Beloved Disciple.” Two paths begin to emerge: Peter is the shepherd sent to lead while the “Beloved Disciple” is the witness sent to preserve the truth. This reveals a profound truth for us today: Christ’s story isn’t a finished book. When the Gospel says the world couldn’t hold all the volumes of Jesus’ works, it implies that the narrative is still unfolding. Our lives are those “unwritten volumes.” Each act of mercy and step of faith serves as a new page, documenting the “other things” Jesus is doing in our world right now.
If your life were a book documenting the work of the Risen Jesus, what marvelous moments would it capture? What truth would your experiences preach to the people of today? In what ways is your daily life currently revealing the beauty of the Good News?
Write well and edit it often!
Let us pray: Lord, transform our lives into a living Gospel, that through our hands and hearts, the world may know you are still very much in our midst.
