From today’s Scripture: “But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” —Jn 16:7
The Holy Spirit has always been the mysterious third person of the Trinity for me. This reading doesn’t help either. Jesus seems to imply that if we had to choose between the two, to always choose the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the guide of our souls and as Pope Benedict said, “The teacher of our interior life.” Happily, we don’t have to choose between the two. But we need to focus our prayers to help us recognize the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Let us pray: Lord, as we reflect on life, help us pray for the grace of the Holy Spirit to shed light, to bring truth, and to be the consolation that Jesus promises.
