Daily Reflection

6th Saturday of Easter

Trust in God.

From today’s Scripture: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” —Jn 16:23

Life is full of stories of trust and perseverance. Life, too, is full of stories of despair. What makes the difference? And how are outcomes sometimes changed, in unpredictable ways for those who trust?

A young man is injured in a car wreck and is told he may never walk again. Yet he calls on all of his inner strength—and the grace of God—to persevere in a year of physical therapy. He walks today. He is the exception, of course: not everyone has his choice. But he does. He sees a chance, and grace empowers him to take it.

A woman is told that because she grew up poor, she will never make it in society. Yet she is determined, and believes God will show her the way. Sure enough, years later, she is in a new place in life. Again, hers may be a rare case—we don’t pull ourselves out by our own bootstraps. But God works in people’s lives. And when grace and opportunity merge, people do change.

Jesus tells us that God will provide. We don’t know how, or when, but we all are challenged to listen.

Let us pray:  Lord, create miracles in my life! Help me to ask you for help, and to listen to your grace within.
