From today’s Scripture: “Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all you lands. Sing to the LORD; bless his name. Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations.”—Ps 96:1-3
Psalm 96 commands us to SING! In glory to God we are to proclaim his goodness and blessings. Music is integral to our worship, not just a beautiful performance to enjoy. It brings us together to offer praise, express our faith, and take an active role in liturgy. Music connects us directly to God. I cannot imagine celebrating Christ’s birth without singing Christmas carols or his resurrection without the Alleluias ringing throughout the Church at Easter. The opening and closing hymns, those at offertory and communion, this responsorial psalm, and every opportunity to sing during the Mass are all there to bring us closer to God as a community and lift our souls in his glory. Praise be to God!
Let us pray: Dear God, thank you for the gift of music to sing your praises and thank you for your goodness! May our voices join with the angels and saints in glorifying you.
