From today’s Scripture: “Let him turn to the Lord for mercy; to our God who is generous in forgiving.” — Isaiah 55:7

We serve a very generous God who showers down mercy and love that overflows. What an amazing gift! As workers in the vineyard, how do we react when other workers receive the same mercy that we received? Are we envious? Are we joyful? Do we feel cheated? Are we grateful? What is your response when you receive mercy? What is your response when others receive mercy?

I visited the local jail and prison to proclaim that our God is generous in forgiving. We are not defined by our worst day. As the residents lined up to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, many did so for the first time or in many years. I was overcome with tears of joy and gratitude because they received the same mercy that I have received and continue to receive. God is generous in forgiving; let us seek the Lord.

Let us pray: Thank you, Jesus, who forgave the repentant thief, Dismas, on the cross; let us not get tired of seeking that forgiveness. Take away any bitterness or envy and teach us to be grateful and generous in order to follow in your footsteps.
