25th Friday in Ordinary Time

A sacrifice of love

From today’s Scripture: “ he said, ‘The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.’”—Lk 9:22

Even as Jesus was teaching and preparing his disciples for his passion, they did not understand. The Apostles had seen Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead, but a foreshadowing of his own death and resurrection was incomprehensibleuntil he stood with them in the Upper Room and showed the nail wounds in his hands and feet.

Long from now, in Lent, we will prepare ourselves for the despair of Good Friday and the ultimate joy of Easter Sunday. We will reaffirm our belief that Jesus gave his life for our salvation, an awesome gift of love that brings the hope we need for our own journey of faith throughout the year. We should keep that in mind, even in September.

Let us pray: My Lord, you willingly gave your life to save me from my sins. Help me understand the depth of your love and sacrifice . Let me say yes to your ways and follow your example.
