From today’s Scripture: “Wrath and anger are hateful things, yet the sinner hugs them tight.” — Sirach 27:30

This reading reminds me of a character in a show I used to watch, El Chavo del Ocho. El Chavo would tell his friend Kiko not to think about or hang on to feelings that hurt him, because remembering was reliving.

I, too, at times struggle to let go of things that have hurt me, because letting go means forgiving. Forgiving is a simple act, but sometimes we like to dwell on it, and it seems the longer we dwell, the harder it becomes to do. We seek forgiveness from others and God, but at times act like the servant in today’s Gospel who asked for forgiveness but was not willing to give it.

Let us pray: God, I pray that forgiveness and mercy flow in my heart, and I seek forgiveness for my sins.
