Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

OT Winter Email Header 2026-3

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.”—Mt 4:23

When I am asked what it looks like to be a missionary, I say I was taught to be a jack-of-all-trades. In these 11 months since my ordination, I have learned that the missions need flexibility and openness of heart to say yes. Being in a Glenmary mission can look like many things; community morning prayer, community meals, feeding the needy in our counties, visiting the sick and elderly, or even participating in Bible studies. We cannot exhaust the list of roles. Really, we are jacks-of-all-trades.

Like Jesus, Glenmarians are always on the move making the world a better place. Like Jesus who came to serve but not to be served, Glenmarians preach the gospels in word and deed. We bring the Kingdom of God by witnessing the gospels in the counties we serve. Last, we provide healing to the people of God through the sacraments of penance and anointing, and walking with people of God with compassion and mercy.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus Christ, the model of all the missionaries, you gave us an example of a perfect missionary by your life. Help me learn that I was born to serve a specific mission. Grant me grace and wisdom to be the best person I was made to be in God’s service. Amen.
