From today’s Scripture: “Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel.”—2 Kgs 5:15
Naaman was a highly respected army commander for the king of Aram. But he contracted leprosy, a contagious illness that rendered him unclean under Jewish law and often meant the person was ostracized from society. Interestingly, it was an unnamed little girl, captured during a raid of Israel, and Naaman’s servants who ensured that Naaman was healed.
The young girl encouraged Naaman to visit the prophet, Elisha, and the servants encouraged Naaman to follow Elisha’s instructions when Naaman became impatient. It wasn’t until after Naaman was healed that he began to believe that the God of Israel was the one true God.
Reflecting on your own life, can you think of moments where you lacked faith in God’s promises? Or are there moments where someone of little consequence intervened on your behalf, but remained unrecognized? “Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed” (Jn 20:29).
Let us pray: Dear God, help me in my unbelief and give me the ability to see those quietly ministering to others, who often go unrecognized.
