From today’s Scripture: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?’ ‘Here I am,’ I said; ‘send me!’”—Is 6:8
Whenever I am asked to do something new or important, my first instinct is to think of all the reasons why I am not qualified to do such things.
In today’s reading, Isaiah’s first response is not one of confidence. “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” God recognizes Isaiah’s flaws, purifies him, and then calls on him. This is a great reminder that willingness often comes before confidence.
Let us pray: Lord, give us the courage to answer your call even when we feel unqualified.
