Sixth Day of Christmas

Christmas Email Header 2025_web

From today’s Scripture: “And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.”—Lk 2:38

Yesterday we saw Simeon’s encounter with the infant Jesus. Today we meet Anna. Anna lost her husband after just seven years of marriage and chose to dedicate her life completely to God and live as a widow. Even though her life contained hardships, she filled her days with prayer and fasting, never leaving the Temple. Her perseverance in prayer and deep devotion to God allowed her to see the infant Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah. She could not contain her joy and immediately gave thanks to God and shared her encounter with everyone.

Our world is loud, chaotic, and filled with distractions that are constantly pulling us away from family and God. I find myself longing for silence, a silence that allows me to place my ear on God’s heart, and listen for his voice. I can do this as I spend time in prayer and devotion before the Blessed Sacrament. I can do this in the early hours of the morning as I meditate on Scripture and lift my prayers to him. I can pause during the day to thank him for all his blessings. I only have to choose to place him first over all things.

Let us pray: Lord, deepen my love for you. Help me to persevere in prayer. Let my heart overflow with joy each time I encounter you. Let my voice proclaim your salvation to everyone I meet.
